District sues former teacher for lying on job application In the suit, the former students allege that members of the faculty ignored complaints about Shewell for years. The students, all part of Shewell’s theater program, alleged in the lawsuit that he was abusive and predatory, grooming them to become sexual partners and harassing students who rebuffed him – even encouraging students to commit suicide. The settlement agreement precludes any parties from disclosing any details or commenting publicly about how the agreement was reached. Shewell directed North Central’s theater art program from the fall of 2013 until May 2020, when he was fired. The lawsuit was originally filed in May 2022, against the district, board and four employees, for failing to perform a proper background check on Nathan Shewell.
