Wasting precious time here can be the difference between landing safely or falling off a cliff and taking damage, so you have to be careful about where you plan to land. That move now adds a clever touch of real-time movement to this turn-based game: heroes will hover for a few seconds, during which you have to steer them. You’re still confined to a radius based on each character’s movement stats, but there are plenty of ways to chain actions together to extend it – most notably the team jump, where one character can bounce off of another to cross the usually small maps in one turn. I’m sure there’s still a grid underneath the maps somewhere, but Sparks of Hope does a fantastic job of hiding it and making movement in tactical battles look and feel smooth as Mario and friends run around. I was really happy to see this change in place, as I felt the co-op challenges were inevitably undermined in the end, as you steamroll through them with high-level characters.Īnyway, Johnny and I went hands-on with the new mode this week and you can see how we got on in the video below.Battles themselves feel different right away. ![]() Unlike Mario Rabbids' co-op multiplayer you'll also need to select from a variety of loadouts when putting together your squad, rather than carrying over the weapons and abilities you've unlocked in your singleplayer campaign. However, scattered around the map you'll also find boxes containing tickets that can be used to unlock additional actions - the player that control these boxes, controls the game. Versus Mode plays a little differently to the core game, with players being limited to just a handful of actions per turn, helping prevent one player from immediately dominating the game with an entire squad's worth of dashing, techniques and weapon shots. Mario Rabbids will be updated with a new competitive multiplayer mode as of tomorrow, allowing two players to go head-to-head locally. ![]()
